Sometimes bad things happen to good people, and sometimes bad things happen to people who are jerks. A lot of the time, the bad thing that happens to a jerk has nothing to do with what makes them a jerk. It’s just shit that happens. Maybe in the grand scheme of things, we say that they ‘deserved’ it more since they are jerks. But it is not their jerkiness that leads to their personal catastrophe, it’s just a coincidence that they happen to be a tool. I think this lack of correlation between event and causation is what makes people believe in karma. But, if shit is just going to happen anyway, then maybe we’re trying too hard to find patterns where there aren’t any. Just randomness.

I should really stop looking for words in my Alphabits cereal in the middle of the night.
